Crispy breaded fish with a tangy tonkatsu sauce, fresh green salad and rice makes a great dinner.

Many folks find cooking fish a bit of a puzzle. This recipe is a straight forward and pretty quick recipe that has everything to make it a full meal for dinner. Don’t be scared of the sauce, it’s easy to make with just four ingredients. When you finish making the sauce you’ll say, “so that’s how you make that sauce”.

Making rice for fish tonkatsu

Start off by boiling the rice, as this is the item that takes the longest. Remember rice is 2 parts water to 1 part rice. Just get it boiling, then put a lid on the pot and turn down the heat to low. You’re rice will be done in 12-15 minutes depending on the variety. Here we use sushi rice, that’s sticky and nice for this meal, but any kind will do for this recipe.

By the time the rice is ready the entire meal will also be all ready to eat.

Tonkatsu Suace

After you have the rice cooking, make the sauce. Just put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix. It’s not more complicated than that.

Next up cook the fish in a pan on the cook top. Use a little sunflower oil or higher heating oil to brown it a bit on both sides. For this recipe we just purchased an already breaded filet of hake and cooked it.

The last food item, wash and chop up the lettuce, green onion and cucumber to make a nice cool crisp salad to go along with the fish and rice.
